Pedro Enrique Emerson. Medico, escritor, deportista y fotografo nacido en la plantacion cubana de caña de azucar de su padre.
Su infancia esta ligada desde los 8 años a Wilmintong, localidad materna, donde estudió.
En 1879 se gradua en medicina en el King's college de Londres y continuó sus estudios en el Clare college de Campbridge antes de colocarse como medico en el King college hospital de Londres a traves de una oposicion.
Compró su primera camara para ilustrar un tratado de ornitologia que preparaba un amigo
En 1884 se traslada a Norfolk broad donde dos años mas tarde abandona la medicina para escribir y tomar fotografias.
Se caracteriza por ser defensor de la fotografia al natural, en contraste con el modelo de la epoca en la que primaba la pose artificial y el sentimentalismo. Emerson criticó todas las intervenciones manuales hasta el retoque y defendió la pureza de la imagen directa no manipulada, y de la visión fotográfica sin artificios.
Está considerado uno de los primeros documentalistas por su aficion a fotografiar al campesinado de el este de Inglaterra en estado cotidiano y natural.
