Gran defensor de una linea transcontinental norteamericana para la expansion comercial de los nuevos territorios ocupados en el oeste.

Creó una gran red de franquicias de fotografia que llegó a expandirse hasta las europeas Paris y Liverpool.

Murio suicidado al intentar crear una red propia de ferrocarriles que no llegó a hacerse realidad.

Norteamericano hijo de holandeses, estudia quimica como complemento para la empresa familiar de bruñido y plateado de metales.

El pretigio que se crea en su profesion, hace que el mecánico Joseph Saxton y el físico-químico Paul Beck Goddard contactases con Cornelius para perfeccionar la placa de Daguerre utilizando bromo como acelerante consiguiendo que el tiempo de exposicion para las tomas fotograficas se redujese a segundos.

Este autoretrato de Robert Cornelius esta considerado uno de los primeros retratos de el mundo y el primero de America.
En los primeros años de la decada de los 40 de el siglo XIX, Cornelius abrió dos de los primeros estudios fotograficos de Estados Unidos, pero a medida que se popularizaba el metodo fotografico, lo fué dejando para continuar con la empresa familiar de gas y iluminacion.

Pedro Enrique Emerson. Medico, escritor, deportista y fotografo nacido en la plantacion cubana de caña de azucar de su padre.
Su infancia esta ligada desde los 8 años a Wilmintong, localidad materna, donde estudió.
En 1879 se gradua en medicina en el King's college de Londres y continuó sus estudios en el Clare college de Campbridge antes de colocarse como medico en el King college hospital de Londres a traves de una oposicion.
Compró su primera camara para ilustrar un tratado de ornitologia que preparaba un amigo
En 1884 se traslada a Norfolk broad donde dos años mas tarde abandona la medicina para escribir y tomar fotografias.
Se caracteriza por ser defensor de la fotografia al natural, en contraste con el modelo de la epoca en la que primaba la pose artificial y el sentimentalismo. Emerson criticó todas las intervenciones manuales hasta el retoque y defendió la pureza de la imagen directa no manipulada, y de la visión fotográfica sin artificios.
Está considerado uno de los primeros documentalistas por su aficion a fotografiar al campesinado de el este de Inglaterra en estado cotidiano y natural.
