Thomas Cowperthwaite Eakins, en 1844 en Philadelfia y fallecido en 1916. Fue pintor, esculptor y fotografo.
Biografía
Thomas Eakins estudió en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Jean-Léon Gérôme y de Léon Bonnat entre 1866 y 1868. Viajó después a España y luego regresó a los Estados Unidos donde comenzó una brillante carrera como pintor realista. Enamorado de la realidad óptica, se interesó por la fotografía. En 1882 fue nombrado profesor de la Academia de Bellas Artes de Pennsylvania, una escuela de arte vanguardista donde enseñó fotografía. En 1886 perdió su puesto en dicha academia por haber revelado la desnudez de un modelo masculino a un público femenino en un curso de anatomia.

Thomas Eakins studied at the School of Fine Arts Jean-Léon Gérôme and Léon Bonnat between 1866 and 1868. Then traveled to Spain and then returned to the United States where he began a brilliant career as a realist painter. Really love the view, became interested in photography. In 1882 he was appointed professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Pennsylvania, an avant-garde art school where he taught photography. In 1886 he lost his place in the academy for revealing the nakedness of a male model at a female audience in an anatomy course.
His wife, Susan Macdowell Eakins (1851-1938), was also a painter.
